Introducing Cozi Chores: Tackle the to-dos together

woman using cozi app to plan meals

We’re excited to introduce Cozi Chores, available on iOS and Android, to give Cozi families a dedicated place to track household tasks for everyone. To get started, find this new feature in your app when you navigate to Lists, then tap Chores. With Cozi Chores, you can easily assign and track recurring chores for each family member—all in one shared view.

Here are a few quick tips to make the most of Cozi Chores.

Everyone in the family has a Chores list

Every family member in the account automatically has space for their own chores. You’ll be able to see your chores and the chores for each of your family members.

Pin Chores for easy viewing

Each family member has a pin image to the right of their name. Tap this pin to  bring that list of chores to the top for your account.

Each logged in family member can choose to pin their own list to the top of their personal view. Or, if you’re a parent using Cozi Chores to track to-dos for your kid, you can pin their list to the top in your account.

Set up daily or weekly recurrences

Once you’ve created a chore, tap the pencil icon to the right of the chore to set up recurrences. On the edit screen, select daily or weekly. Then, the chore will show up each day (if daily) or each week on the day it was created (if weekly).

Or, if you’re creating a new chore, start by tapping the pencil icon to the right of the line. Then use the edit screen to add in your chore and set up your daily or weekly occurrence.

Now you’re set up to tackle the to-dos—together!

Introducing Cozi Meal Planner: Dinner’s just a few taps away!

woman using cozi app to plan meals

We’re excited to bring all Cozi families a new way to plan meals in the app using Cozi Meal Planner. With this easy-to-use scheduler, you can quickly create a dinner plan for the week ahead.

Getting started with Cozi Meal Planner

Find the Meal Planner by tapping Recipes and selecting Meal Planner Beta. Begin by viewing the week you’d like to plan for. You’ll see that Cozi’s done the work of tracking your busy days for you!

Under each date, the number of events in your Cozi Calendar is displayed. With a quick tap on this blue text, remind yourself what’s coming up. Soccer practice till 7PM? Might want to throw something in the crockpot in the morning!

Select the day you want to plan dinner, and you’ll see a few options for entering your meal:
  • Choose from Cozi Picks, a library of recipes we’ve collected from our Cozi families.
  • Select a recipe from Cozi Top 20, a new list of popular dinner recipes.
  • Add a new recipe, either from scratch or by pasting in a URL from your favorite cooking site.
  • Choose a recipe from your Family Recipe Box

Once you’ve selected your meal, the recipe will automatically show up in your weekly view. You can continue to add dinners in the Meal Planner for as many days as you’d like. (Meal planning is currently limited to dinners only.)

How does Cozi Meal Planner work with the rest of Cozi?

The dinners you schedule in Cozi Meal Planner will also show up in your Cozi Calendar. Whether you’re in Agenda, 3-day (Cozi Gold feature) or Month View (Cozi Gold feature), tap on the Meal, then tap View Recipe to bring up the recipe.

You can integrate the recipe ingredients with your Cozi Shopping Lists by tapping the Shopping Cart icon at the top of your screen. Then, choose to add it to an existing Groceries list or create a new list.

How can you put Cozi Meal Planner to work for your family?

Plan your meals around your busy schedule

We know how important it is to plan a meal that works around your schedule. So when you enter the Meal Planner, your weekly view will also display how many events you have on each day that week.

Quickly pick dinners for the week

Adding a recipe to the Calendar is one tap away. Just browse your recipe box, or any one of our pre-populated recipe sections. With a quick tap on the + sign, your chosen recipe is on the Calendar.

Never hear the question What’s for dinner?” again

Once a meal is added to your calendar, any family member on your Cozi account can see what’s for dinner, either directly from Agenda, any Calendar view, or the Meal Planner. You’ll never hear that dreaded question again—or, at least, next time you can answer it with “Check Cozi!”
We hope Cozi Meal Planner makes meal planning a little less daunting and—dare we say—a little more fun?! We’re in it together to reduce that last-minute dinner panic. For questions, support, or to give us feedback, drop us a line at support@cozi.com.   Happy (meal) planning!

28 Holiday Traditions for Families

Embrace the magic of the season with these traditions or start something new with your family. From simple recipe ideas to ways to give back, here are 28 ideas to embrace this special time spent with loved ones.

Holiday food traditions

1. Make traditional dishes for your holiday meals and include foods from your culture or foods you ate growing up. Ask for recipes from relatives to keep your family food traditions alive.

2. Organize a cookie-baking party or a cookie swap. Invite friends and family or a group of your kids’ friends. Ask everyone to bring their favorite holiday cookie recipe.

3. Make the same entree for your holiday meals every year. Or, choose a side dish that becomes the yearly tradition, even if it’s just for laughs.

4. Make a gingerbread house with your family. Those premade sets make it easy and provide you with everything you’ll need! Another option is to use graham crackers, some royal icing, and candy.

5. Make hot cider or cocoa to keep energy levels up (and your tastebuds happy!).

Neighborhood and community traditions

6. See a local production of ‘The Nutcracker,’ ‘A Christmas Carol,’ or another holiday-themed show.

7. Check out holiday lights in your area. Get in the car, turn on your favorite playlist, and find brightly lit houses.

8. Record local holiday events on your calendar. Most cities have concerts, festivals, plays, and more to celebrate the season.

9. Go sledding, ice skating, or other outdoor winter activity with your family.

10. Invite family, friends, and neighbors over for games, dessert, and to decompress from the holiday.

Around the home holiday traditions

11. Read holiday books before bed each night to boost your family’s spirit.

12. Create a holiday playlist that your family listens to in the car or at home.

13. Set aside one night each week to watch a holiday movie or television special, or just your favorites to share with your family (kids, etc)

14. Have your child start an ‘I Am Thankful’ list. Have them add one thing they are thankful for each day.

15. As a family, write a letter about the previous year. Have each member contribute one memorable moment from the year to be recorded to share with friends and family.

16. Make holiday decorations yourself! Decorate windows with paper snowflakes, glue glitter onto pinecones and arrange in a bowl, and visit kid-friendly crafts sites to get creative and fun ideas that will involve your children.

17. Camp out in your living room or a different room in the house. Read stories, and snack on treats.

18. Get matching pajamas for the kids or whole family.

Giving back holiday traditions

19. Volunteer your time as a family at a soup kitchen or a food bank that hands out food to families in need.

20. Find a giving tree that allows you to sponsor a family in need or purchase toys for children in need. Go shopping for the items together and donate them.

21. Start a canned food drive in your neighborhood or at your child’s school. Ask neighbors to donate canned and non-perishable foods, then donate them to a food bank.

22. Go through closets and donate gently used clothing (coats are particularly useful this time of year) to a local shelter.

23. Hold a book drive and ask coworkers, friends, neighbors, and family to donate books for kids that you can give to your local library, elementary school, or family shelter.

24. Volunteer time at your local senior living center or see if there is a giving tree specifically for the residents.

Holiday gift traditions

25. If gifts have been sent from relatives that are far away (like grandparents), call them when they are opened so everyone can share in the joy.

26. Pick names randomly and only give gifts to the person whose name you draw. Set a dollar limit to keep it even and have fun! It can be as easy as a playlist or a (digital) photobook of your family’s greatest moments of the year.

27. If your extended family is large, make a deal among the adults to buy gifts for only the kids of the family.

28. Start a gag gift tradition. Give a funny gift to a family member. Each year, pass the gift on to another unsuspecting family member.

End of Summer Family Traditions to Start this Year

There is still time to have summer fun with your family before heading back to school. By establishing an end-of-summer tradition, your family can get an extra dose of excitement before starting up the back-to-school routine. These traditions are also a great way for the entire family to enjoy some meaningful, quality time together.

So, whether you’re looking for something low-key or a little more adventurous, we have you covered with a few ideas. And if these aren’t the right fit for your family, perhaps they will inspire you.

Have a movie night

Pick a flick, grab the snacks, and lay out the sleeping bags: it’s family movie night complete with a sleepover. If the weather permits, take it outdoors!

Eat something silly

One Cozi family eats spaghetti with no utensils! “We eat a plate of spaghetti, and you can use your hands or face, but no one gets a fork! It’s so fun because parents and kids all participate. It’s a great way to end the summer and something my kids always look forward to!”

Take a trip

From a family camping trip to a visit to the seaside, there are so many great places to make memories. It doesn’t have to be a grand vacation; a quick trip outside your city can do wonders. We might even suggest a staycation!

Share your favorite summer moments

Another Cozi family loves reminiscing about their summer vacation before heading home. “Before we leave to go home, we all go to the edge of the lake and take one last look out over the water. Remember ALL the fun things we did and have shared as a family and as friends, and say thanks!”

Listen to live music

From big festivals to local bands, many cities have live music, especially over Labor Day Weekend. Plan to stay up late to catch a headliner or two. A Cozi fan says to stop for ice cream on the way home!

No matter if it’s your first year wrapping up summer with a family tradition or if you’ve been going strong for years, now is the perfect time to get everyone together for a final farewell to an amazing season of fun and family.

The Ultimate Collection of Back-to-School To-Do and How-To Lists to Stay Organized and Stress-Free

Let’s face it. Without lists, we might never get anything done or end up leaving the store without the one thing we absolutely needed. But lists do so much more than help us tackle chores and get the right groceries. They help us save time, feel organized, and prepare for big moments like back to school.

That’s why we created NEW pre-made back-to-school lists. As the new school year nears, we’ve got you covered with to-dos and how-tos to make the transition as effortless as possible.

On iOS, find them on your home screen when you open the app. Or, open Lists from your Cozi iOS app, tap the +, then tap “Explore Cozi’s Back-to-School Lists!”. Just add the lists to your Cozi account for easy tracking and tackling. (These handy lists are coming soon to Android!)

Unwind for bedtime

Bedtime can be one of the most arduous parts of the day, especially with little ones that are wound up or dread going to sleep, but it can also be a special time for you to connect with your child. With a little consistency and a mapped-out bedtime routine, you might find it’s one of the best parts of your day.

Get well soon

Back-to-school means back to colds and coughs. Kids are exposed to new people and places, meaning more germs floating around. Be prepared for whatever potential sickness comes your way with a comprehensive get-well-soon shopping list. It has everything you’ll need to soothe and comfort your child.

School clothes essentials

Kids grow and they grow fast! One minute their pants are too long, the next they fit like capris. Updating kids’ wardrobes is an essential part of getting ready for the new school year. You can start by auditing the closet. Go through everything to see what’s too small, too dirty, or doesn’t “spark joy” anymore. Then, cross reference with this handy Clothes Essentials shopping list, adding what you need and removing what you don’t for that back-to-school shopping trip.

First day of practice

Depending on the age of your children and the sport they play, they might be learning fundamentals or heading into longer practices and intense training days. That might mean more equipment, clothes, and other items that must be planned for in advance. Be prepared for the first day of fall sports practice.

Planning routes

There are many options for kids to get to and from school, from walking and biking to driving and public transportation. It’s important to plan for the different routes your child might take, mapping out the do’s and don’ts, contingency plans, and more to make everyone feel safe and confident. Use this Planning Routes List to make the first few days of the school commute seamless.

Preparing the house for chaos

Some might say a little mayhem happens when kids go back to school. Everything you thought you had organized changes with new routines and new activities. That’s why it’s best to think about the chaos in advance and prep for it. Start with a general decluttering of common spaces, then move to closets and the kitchen. Don’t forget to establish a designated school zone for study needs and school items. (Trust us, your future self will thank you.)

Let Cozi remember your to-dos and how-tos, so you don’t have to. For more helping hacks and BTS tips, follow @CoziFamily.

Mobile Month View Gets a Makeover!

We’re excited to bring you a redesigned Mobile Month View to help you see who’s attending an event and to improve how you view, edit, and add events.

After speaking with many Cozi families, and collecting lots of your feedback, we’ve built the new Mobile Month View to help you plan with ease.

Mobile Month View improvements are on iOS for Cozi Gold subscribers.

To upgrade to Cozi Gold, or to view and compare features, visit your settings.

Check out the color-coded Calendar

The Month View now has color coding! When you tap Month, you’ll see the color-coded dots of your family members to represent who is attending an event. Here’s how it works:

    • Just one family member: The event is their color.
    • More than one family member: The event will show the color dots of the first two attendees, and then you’ll see a + if there are more.
    • All family members: The event will show the color assigned to All.

You can see up to four events per day at a glance.

If you have more than four events in a day, you’ll see three small blue dots at the bottom of the day, indicating that there are more events on that day. Tap on the individual day to pull up the rest.

Easily dive into a single day

In the new Mobile Month View, you can bring up a specific day just by tapping on that day. You’ll see a half screen pop up to show you all the events of that day. You can scroll to see all the events.

View birthdays

If you tap into a specific day, and there’s a birthday that day, it‘ll be the first thing you see. You’ll know who it is by the color-coding: If it’s someone in the account, it’s shaded the color of their dot. If the birthday is celebrated by a family member or friend who’s not in your Cozi account, you’ll see this section shaded blue.

View meals

If you have a meal in your calendar, you’ll see a section at the top of this half screen titled Meals. You can tap this to pull up all the meals you’ve added (Breakfast, Lunch, and/or Dinner.) Tap on the meal to bring it up in Recipes (and don’t forget to choose the Screen On icon while you’re cooking!).

Edit and add events from Month View

With the new Mobile Month View you can edit your events from this screen with ease. Once you tap on a day, you can tap on any event to modify it. Once you tap on it, you can:

    • Copy the event. Let’s say you’re going to barre class this Saturday and next. Just tap on the icon of the two sheets to duplicate this event.
    • Delete the event: Decided not to go? Tap the trash can to delete this event.
    • Edit the event: Tap the rectangle with a pencil to open the event and change any of its details, such as attendees, reminders, location, and timing.

You can also tap on a day and add an event from the half screen that pops up, either using Add Event or SmartAdd.

Improvements to filtering

You can filter by family member, and Cozi will show any event where that person is an attendee. To help you know what view you’re seeing, you’ll notice a small bar at the bottom that tells you whose schedule you’re filtering by.

Within the filter, you can click on a day to see just the events the filtered family member is attending.

Tap the X to go back to a view of the month that includes all family member events.

Don’t miss these additional upgrades

We’ve given your Mobile Month View a little more space to breathe! You’ll see spacing in between months so you can more clearly distinguish between them.

You might notice you’ll squint less; we’ve made the text larger so it’s easier to read.

Never lose your place again: When you use the month picker at the top to view a month, no matter what date you choose, you’ll be oriented to the first week of the month so you can see the whole month on your screen.

Finally, check it out on iPad! The new Mobile Month View is compatible with your iPad, so you can see all these feature improvements on a bigger screen, too.

We hope you enjoy this improved view and as always, happy planning!

Organize Your Cozi Lists with Section Headings

Lists are a quick and simple way to declutter your mind. They take a little pressure off your memory and free up brain space.

But sometimes lists are messy jumbles, and just looking at one can be overwhelming.

Did you know you can create section headings in Cozi Lists? It’s one way to make your lists even more organized. A list with headings is tidy, digestible, and easy to grasp at a glance.

And now, with section headings, you can add new items directly under the headings instead of at the top of the list (no more dragging and dropping your new items!)

What are section headings?

In Cozi, you can use headings to create categories in any list. They’re available on your iOS or Android app as well as Cozi on the web.

This useful feature works with both Shopping and To Do Lists.

Why create section headings within a list?

Image of grocery list with headings grouped by item type

When you’re in the kitchen making your grocery list, you might add buttermilk, lemons, and tomato sauce. But if you’ve already created a section heading for PACKAGED, you can add tomato sauce using the new + sign right next to your PACKAGED section heading, lemons under PRODUCE, and buttermilk under DAIRY.

Then, when you’re in the produce section of the grocery store, you don’t need to scan your whole list, searching for the grapes and radishes hidden between the rice and deodorant. Instead, just look under the PRODUCE section heading.

Check each item on your list as you get to each section in the store. You’ll be out of the store before family game night starts, with plenty of time to switch the laundry first.

Or you could track all the stuff you need for after-school activities. Johnny’s baseball equipment on Tuesday and Nia’s karate uniform on Thursday—just create one list with sections for each day of the week. Need to remember Johnny’s flute on Monday? Just tap the + to add it to under the MONDAY section heading.

Every day, as you get ready in the morning, you can easily check off each item as you pack the car. No more stressing about forgotten library books.

How to use section headings in a list

On the web:

When you navigate to Lists, click on the three vertical dots in the top right corner of your screen, and then select Add Section. Then, name your section. To add items within a section, tap on the + next to the section to insert an item directly under the correct heading.

On iOS and Android:

Navigate to Lists by tapping the Lists icon at the bottom of your Home screen. Choose either the Shopping tab or the To Do tab. After you create and name your list, use ALL CAPS to create a heading. Once you’ve created headings, add new items directly under the header by tapping the + in the header bar.

Happy list-making!

How Making Lists Will Protect Your Sanity

Some lists are short and sweet. But many of them grow and grow, which can be overwhelming if you’re juggling them in your mind.

Don’t let your lists clutter up your precious mental space. Instead, just do a brain dump—get all the odds and ends out from inside your head and jot them down on paper or add them to Cozi!

Benefits of writing lists

Stay organized

Psychology Today points out that lists are harder to remember than stories, for example, because the items aren’t connected in the same meaningful way. Maybe your son needs to take back his library books, but that isn’t a natural consequence of having to get your car’s oil changed (even if both of them piled up because you were out of town last weekend.)

If you’re only keeping track mentally, you’re more likely to lose track. Write your ideas down.

Feel organized

Lists can also help you feel a stronger sense of being organized—they’re a really simple way to cut down on frustration. They can even make you feel more satisfied with your accomplishments. Basically, a list helps you replace stress with fulfillment.

Save time

Lists are concise and easy to read. When you make one, you cut out the time you spend trying to remember things (and then going back to the store because you forgot kiwis). When you read a list, you can just scan it quickly and then get to work.

How to make Cozi lists

Shopping lists

Tap Lists in the bottom menu, which takes you to the Shopping tab. Tap a shopping list, then tap + Add item. Type in your item and that’s it!

Anyone on your account can add to your shopping list. If your son drinks the last of the milk, he can add it to the list right away instead of waiting to (hopefully) tell you, or writing on a paper list you’ll leave behind on your grocery store run.

Cozi Tip: Did you know you can even add recipe ingredients directly to a shopping list? Go to Recipes in the bottom menu and select a recipe (like the Bacon Cheddar Apple Frittata). Then click the shopping cart icon in the top menu, select the list you want to add it to, and tap Save. You can even add the meal to your Calendar.

To Do Lists

This is where you can go all-out on a brain dump. There’s always so much to do, but your tasks feel less overwhelming and more manageable when they’re settled in a tidy, orderly list, and not just sloshing around in your brain.

Here you can assign a list to yourself or a family member (if you’re using the mobile app) or keep it as a shared list. Categorize all the jobs to be done by family member, month, or room of the house—you choose! You can create endless lists.

Cozi Tip: To organize your tasks even more, you can create headings for different sections of your list. In the Cozi mobile app, just type in all caps to automatically turn an item into a colored section subheading. When using Cozi on the web, click the three-dot icon in the upper left corner of your list and select Add Section.

Give your brain a break

Lists are psychologically healthy, practically efficient, and convenient. Give it a whirl and start building your own lists in Cozi on the web through the link below. Or, open the mobile app and navigate to Lists to get started.
